   UNIT GOAL: Students will develop and demonstrate the ability to select,
              use, and care for rope.

   UNIT OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able 
                   to:
   
   1. List five common uses of rope.
   
   2. Identify samples of natural and synthetic fiber ropes.
   
   3. List the factors to consider when selecting rope.
   
   4. Describe three important practices in rope care.
   
   5. Construct crown, eye, short, and side-loop splices (or make a rope
      halter, using the splices).
   
   6. Tie three types of common hitches.
   
   7. Tie three types of common knots.
