UNIT GOAL:   Students will develop and demonstrate a basic understanding
             of the types of engines.
__________________________________________________________________________


UNIT OBJECTIVES:  Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

 1. Distinguish among the different types of engines.

 2. Be able to identify the major parts of an engine.

 3. Understand the basic terminology used in the study of engines.

 4. Identify the operating principles of two- and four-stroke engines.

 5. Be familiar with the terminology used in describing carburetion systems.

 6. List the purpose of each component of a fuel system

 7. Explain the theory of carburetion.

 8. Identify the components and explain the theory of an ignition system.

 9. Test, repair, and/or replace components of the ignition system.

10. Disassemble and reassemble an engine.
