Methods:

  • Read the concrete and masonry units in the text book(s) you are using.
  • Go to a local builders supply and get samples of concrete materials, foundation bolts, and reinforcing materials.
  • Spend a day with a concrete contractor and see how concrete is placed and finished.
  • Check with your maintenance or grounds departments to “borrow” larger finishing tools to use as visuals.
  • Use your shop and surrounding buildings and grounds to view different applications of concrete.  
  • Contact local concrete suppliers.  They may be able to drop a left over yard or two for free for a school project.  Be sure and have the forms ready! 
  • Be sure you are comfortable performing any of the skills you will be demonstrating to your class.
