Demonstrate and discuss safety practices used in chemical measurements and application. 2. Summarize the relationship of proper plant nutrition with improved plant health. 3. Explain the effect of diseases on development, growth, and production of plants. 4. Distinguish between pest eradication and pest control. 5. Define integrated pest management (IPM) and discuss ways to incorporate this method into a management program. 6. Identify how weeds are harmful to ornamental plants. 7. Explain the differences between cultural, mechanical, biological, and chemical control of plant pests and demonstrate applications of each. 8. Identify the difference between a contact and a systemic pesticide. 9. Compare the effects of selective and nonselective herbicides. 10. Demonstrate, under careful supervision, four types of chemical application (e.g., band, spot, broadcast, and direct spray) to ornamental plants. 11. To describe the importance of nursery sanitation in a disease prevention program. ____________________________________________________________________________ REFERENCES: Agrios, George N. (1978).
