Transplanting can be done at several different growing stages of nursery stock: 1. From seedling flats to pony paks or small containers 2. From rooted cuttings to liners or gallon cans 3. From liners to gallon cans 4. From gallon cans to five or fifteen gallon containers B. Transplanting is an important part of growing nursery stock. 1. Transplanting is a labor-intensive activity. 2. It costs the nursery a lot of money due to high labor expenses. 3. Speed of work, with a high plant survival rate, is important. C. General steps in transplanting nursery stock: 1. Carefully remove the plant (seedling, cutting, or liner) so that you damage as few roots as possible. 2. Fill container about halfway full with soil. 3. Place plant into the container. 4.
